On
Saturday (November 25th 2006) YCites, Brown’s Town &
its surrounding community residents came out in
support of the public launching of First Caribbean
International Bank Managing Director Milton Brady’s
Challenge with York Castle High School (YCHS) Past
Students Association - Jamaica Chapter to match
J$1million towards the purchase of a YCHS bus. The
launch occurred despite all the rains in Brown’s
Town.
Milton (also a YCite) in his address referred to the
foundation laid at YCHS as inspiration for many
cherished memories no matter what country or
continent he has resided since graduating from YCHS
in 1971. He recalled that even when he “had no lunch
money while attending YCHS, no one knew I had
nothing to eat as I held my head high and
smiled”…this character building experience he
pointed out always is a reminder for him during his
life journey!

The
Challenge launch was a part of the opening ceremony
of the First Caribbean
International Bank’s ABM
located in Herbie Riley’s Plaza on Main Street in
Brown’s Town. March 2007 has been set by Milton as
the target end date for the Challenge offer!
YCHS’
current Headmistress Beverley Hawthorne, in her
remarks at the launch, said that her dream of 10
years ago is surely being realized with the project
to purchase a YCHS bus. Also speaking at the launch
was YCHS Past Students Association - Jamaica Chapter
President Geraldine Sinclair.

The Jamaica Chapter President heralded the
First Caribbean International Bank’s
Challenge for all YCHS alumni to contribute
with any amount to match the J$1million as
stipulated by Milton. “Let us all give generously”
was the appeal of the Chapter President as the
estimated cost of the bus is J$3million which
includes: insurance, fitness & registration. The bus
is being sourced by another YCite Elgin Holness
through his retail automobile business in Kingston.

The
Chapter’s new banner which was on display was
designed by YCite Clement “Jimmy” Lawrence and was
also made possible through Milton’s assistance. The
banner made YCites feel very proud to be
photographed with, even as raindrops loomed.
YCite Joy Speare was commended with a basket of
cheer, by First Caribbean International Bank’s
Marketing Manager Stacy Adams, for helping to make
the ceremony possible. |
